MUM IS STILL THE JEWEL OF THEIR LIVES
20 YEARS AFTER SHE DIED
Phillip Haynes has had his mum’s cremated ashes turned into jewellery for all the family – 20 years after she died. After his mum, Mary, died in 1989, her ashes were stored away in a cupboard in Phillip’s home in Clifton, Nottingham. Now he’s had them turned into a brooch, a pendant, cuff links and memorial picture frames for his five brothers and sisters.
Phillip, who works for the local authority, said: “I wanted to do something with the ashes – but it seemed so final just to go and scatter them. I didn’t want to get rid of them – and wanted keep the in the family. “Then we saw a newspaper report on the Nottingham company, Sentimental Connections, which turns ashes into jewellery. “It looked like a great idea to preserve them in an attractive way. “It’s given us a real sense of closure. We can consider scattering the rest of the ashes – because now we all have a nice keepsake and an attractive piece of jewellery as well.” |
