Jewel of their lives

Sentimental Connections News Update

MUM IS STILL THE JEWEL OF THEIR LIVES

20 YEARS AFTER SHE DIED

Phillip Haynes has had his mum’s cremated ashes turned into jewellery for all the family – 20 years after she died.  After his mum, Mary, died in 1989, her ashes were stored away in a cupboard in Phillip’s home in Clifton, Nottingham.  Now he’s had them turned into a brooch, a pendant, cuff links and memorial picture frames for his five brothers and sisters.

Phillip, who works for the local authority, said: “I wanted to do something with the ashes – but it seemed so final just to go and scatter them. I didn’t want to get rid of them – and wanted keep the in the family.

“Then we saw a newspaper report on the Nottingham company, Sentimental Connections, which turns ashes into jewellery.

“It looked like a great idea to preserve them in an attractive way.

“It’s given us a real sense of closure. We can consider scattering the rest of the ashes – because now we all have a nice keepsake and an attractive piece of jewellery as well.”
